HWR Undergraduate Program - Research

Students stream guagingMany of the courses in the program have laboratories and field trips that include practical field methodology, such as meeting OSHA safety requirements and using current EPA protocols. In the summer between the junior and senior years, students begin a year-long Senior Capstone course (a practice-oriented internship) that provides hands-on, real-world experience. We offer both education and experience.

 

 

 

Teaching and research in this department, is divided into four major areas.Snow Research

Subsurface Hydrology: Vadose Zone Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Ground Water Hydrology, Stochastic modeling, Numerical Modeling.
Surface Hydrology: Surfafce Water Hydrology, Snow Hydrology, Hydrometeorology, Hydroclimatology, Remote sensing applications to Hydrology
Environmental Hydrology:
Water Quality and Water Chemistry, Biogeochemistry, Global Change, Hydrochemical Modeling, Contaminant fate and transport.
Water Resources:
Water Resources System, Administration: Planning and Policy.

Our internationally recognized faculty have a variety of research interests. You can view core teaching and research interest on the faculty page.

Internships with faculty in our research centers are available. Many of our students intern with local outside agencies like ADWR, ADEQ, City of Tucson, and USGS during the year or with Government agencies like NWS and LANL during the summer, to name a few.
