Shuttleworth's Terrestrial Hydrometeorology Published
October 20, 2011
After several years in the making, Regents Professor Jim Shuttleworth's new textbook, Terrestrial Hydrometeorology, has been published and is now available at the Wiley-Blackwell website at a substantial advance purchase discount.
The subject of his new book will also feature in a forthcoming lecture at the American Geophysical Union's annual fall meeting. He will be presenting the 2011 Walter B. Langbein Lecture at AGU's annual fall conference in San Francisco on December 6, 2011*. In his talk, The Emergence of Terrestrial Hydrometeorology, Shuttleworth will present an overview of the dramatic growth and major achievements of this important new interdisciplinary science over the last few decades. He will make the case that it should now be recognized and taught as an interdisciplinary subject in its own right.
Professor Shuttleworth was one of the lead faculty members instrumental in establishing the new graduate degree program in Hydrometerology at the University of Arizona. As the first hydrometeorology program in the nation, it is being offered jointly by the Departments of Atmospheric Sciences and Hydrology and Water Resources. Official admission to the MS and PHD Hydrometeorology major began in the Spring Semester 2010.
Double congratulations, Jim, on the new book and the Langbein Lectureship honor!
*For those unable to attend, a video of the 2011 Langbein Lecture will be available at the AGU website in January 2012.
