The Department of Hydrology and Water Resources and the HWR Student Association (HWRSA) will co-host the 21st El Dia del Agua, the annual student research symposium, on Wednesday, March 30, 2011.
Nine students will make oral paper presentations of their research, and dozens more will have poster presentations on display. Monetary prizes will be made for the best oral paper and poster presentations, including the Montgomery Prize, the Hargis Awards, and the HWR Departmental Awards.
The symposium begins with a continental breakfast at 8:00 AM in the University of Arizona Student Union North Ballroom. Paper and poster presentations will be made all morning and followed by a light buffet lunch at 12:00 noon.
Keynote speaker for the luncheon will be HWR alumnus, Dr. Paul Hsieh, scientist with the U.S. Geological Survey, who will shed some light on "The Science Behind the Taming of the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill." Paper and poster presentations will continue following the keynote address.
Presentation of all prizes and awards will be made later in the afternoon and followed by a cocktail and appetizer hour for all attendees. Registration is $35 and includes the continental breakfast, the buffet lunch, and the cocktail and appetizer hour following presentation of awards.
