HWRS 580 Isotope Tracers in Hydrogeology

(3 units)  Fundamental principles of stable, radiogenic, and cosmogenic isotope chemistry of natural waters; geochemical processes affecting isotopic compositions of surface waters, soil waters, and groundwaters; and case studies of isotope hydrogeology.  Mandatory field trip: Sampling surface- and ground-waters in Tucson Basin, field methods in isotope hydrogeology.  Graduate-level requirements include a facsimile research grant proposal (i.e. as if writing a proposal to a government grant agency), including abstract, of not less than 10 pages.  The grade for this assignment will be based on both the written paper and the oral presentation of the research proposal to the class.
