BIOSPHERE 2-GLOBE Teacher Training Workshop Registration
April 11-12, 25-26 1997

Yes, I would like to attend the first GLOBE Teacher Training Workshop at Biosphere 2 and enable my students to join an international network of students, working with scientists, to learn more about our environment.

I understand that to participate fully in the GLOBE Program, my school will need scientific measurement instruments meeting GLOBE specifications. GLOBE student measurements include observations in Atmosphere/Climate, Hydrology, Land Cover/Biology, and Soils. Instrument costs will be about $300 for scientific instruments for elementary schools, about $450 for intermediate schools, and about $500 for high schools. In addition, my school will need to provide, for student use, World Wide Web access to the internet, which involves use of a suitable computer together with a telephone line and access through an Internet Service Provider. Workshop participants will be provided a copy of the GLOBE educational materials and receive training in GLOBE measurement procedures, GLOBE learning activities, and use of the Internet/World Wide Web.

There is no cost for the training or for the educational materials; however, GLOBE is not responsible for meal fees, accommodations, or travel expenses to and from GLOBE workshops. A meal plan for the four lunches and breaks during this training is estimated to be $??. A meal plan with four lunches and two dinners and two continental breakfasts is estimated to be $45. A block of rooms have been reserved at the Inn at the Biosphere for workshop participants on Friday April 11 and 25. Participants are encouraged to stay as there will be supplementary web browsing time and Biosphere 2 related activities during the evening hours. The group single or double rate is $65/night. Please mention "GLOBE workshop" when making reservations by March 15. Call Veronica Gillen (520-896-6204) at Biosphere 2 to make your room reservations. Please indicate below if you are interested in sharing a room with another teacher and we will assign pairs, by sex, on a first come basis. Veronica indicates that there are no completely smoke-free rooms but if you so indicate, they will make a special effort to air out the room.

Workshop spaces will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis and space for this first workshop is extremely limited. You will receive confirmation of your registration by mail, with detailed information on accommodations and final meal fees. Workshop dates and meal fees are subject to change. You will be notified immediately of any changes related to your selection. Travel plans should not be made until confirmation of your registration has been received.
