UA/GLOBE III Pilot Instructions

Thank you for agreeing to help us test new protocols and activities which may be included in the next edition of GLOBE. Your input on what you find valuable, interesting and doable in your classroom will be invaluable in our decisions on what to add and what to disgard. Any suggestions that teachers or students have for improvements are welcome. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments in addition to filling out the assessment sheets.

There are 2 investigations we are testing: soils and hydrology. It should take about a week to do all of the new protocols and activities for each investigation. You may wish to do only one area.

Testing will take place between Feb. 3 and Mar. 15, 1997. After we have looked at your assessments, we will make changes and post revised protocols and activities on April 1. The second round of tests will take place April 1-20. We will be asking schools who have not done the first round of testing for an investigation to participate in the second round. You may, therefore, want to participate in the 'revised' round in April if you do not test both investigations.

Procedure for Testing:

1. The protocols and activities will be posted on the WEB as of Monday, Feb. 3. Soils are on the Soil Moisture homepage at:

   Hydrology protocols and activities, as well as new Systems Investigation activities, are on the Hydrology homepage at:

   http://www.hwr.arizona.edu/globe/Hydro/hydro.html

   Once at the page, go to GLOBE III to find the protocols and activities to be tested.

2. Follow the instructions for each protocol or activity. Please note the amount of time you use for preparation, as well as the amount of time it takes your students to do the activity.

3. Fill out an assessment sheet for each protocol or activity (Assessment sheets are also under GLOBE III). Mail the sheets to:
