GLOBE III - Soil Walk

Purpose

Introduce begining students to basic concepts and start them seeing their soils and soil moisture in a new, inquiry-based way.

Overview

Ask beginning students and teachers to go on a local "field trip" walk around their school and identify where they find soil (e.g. under grass, flowers, trees, under houses, in the street after a rain, under concrete, open in construction areas...). Ask if there are places where there is soil but it can't be seen. Have students draw pictures about what soil looks like and where it can be found.
