Average alkalinity values reported for 44 GLOBE schools as of July, 1997 range from near zero to over 300 mg/l as CaCO3. For comparison, note the range of alkalinity values for 200 lakes in the Sierra Nevada region of California. As the GLOBE hydrology data base grows, it will provide a new, valuable data set for assessing regional, continental, and global trends in water quality.
