What is the general structure of the graduate degree programs?

Students majoring in Hydrology complete a research-based master's thesis (MS) or doctoral dissertation (PHD), either traditional format or publication option, which focuses on one or two intersecting areas of Hydrology from among the general research areas that include Surface Hydrology, Subsurface Hydrology, Environmental Hydrology, and Water Resources (Systems, Management, Policy).  The majority of course work must be completed with primary faculty in HWR.  The basic requirements of the program include graduate-level course work (fundamental core courses and advanced elective courses), directed research, professional development activities*, formal examination(s), and, in most cases, publication of research.

Students majoring in Hydrometeorology complete a research-based thesis (MS) or dissertation (PHD), either traditional format or publication option.  Their course work is evenly divided between primary faculty in Hydrology and Water Resources and primary faculty in Atmospheric Sciences.  The research may be focused in one department, either Hydrology and Water Resources or Atmospheric Sciences, or in both departments.  The basic requirements of the program include graduate-level course work (fundamental core courses and advanced elective courses), directed research, professional development activities*, and formal examination(s), and, in most cases, publication of research.
