Department Head Open House

At the beginning of the Academic Year (Fall Semester), the Department Head* hosts an Open House reception for all new and continuing undergraduate and graduate students, staff, faculty, and their families.

It's a great informal gathering where everyone gets to meet---everyone!  Students nearing completion of their degrees mix with students who have only been at the University for a few short weeks.  Faculty returning from sabbatical leave catch up with old friends.  It's always a great time to catch up with families--student families, staff families, and faculty families.

Fall Semester 2011

The Fall Semester 2011 Open House was held Saturday, September 24, and co-hosted by Larry Winter, HWR Department Head, his wife, Rebecca, and Paul Brooks, Director of the NSF SAHRA Center.

The venue this year was the Tucson Museum of Art's Cafe a la c'ART.  Over 90 students, faculty, staff, and their families enjoyed a wonderful evening in historic downtown Tucson, taking over the entire cafe and outdoor patio seating area.  A cocktail hour was followed by a fantastic meal catered by Judith, Mark, and Shirley Michelet of Carte Blanche Catering, Cafe a la c'ART's sister company.

Faculty and staff who attend these events year after year enjoy meeting all the new students, and we hope you enjoy meeting us.  It's only after the Open House that new friends become old friends and everyone becomes a part of the HWR family--and this year was no exception!

If you were able to join us this year, we're glad you came!  If not, we hope to see you next year.
