Department Advisory Council
The HWR Department Advisory Council (DAC) was organized in 1991 and is comprised of HWR alumni from private industry and consulting, government agencies, and academia, including Principals, CEOs, CFOs, university-level faculty members and research scientists in national laboratories.
Members of the DAC usually convene in the fall semester during the university's Homecoming Weekend and Annual Student Showcase and in the spring semester during the week of El Dia del Agua, the department's annual student research symposium.
Their responsibilities are to:
- Meet with faculty members to appraise their students' academic and research efforts
- Critique the curricula and degree program requirements
- Assess current teaching and research efforts
- Make recommendations for change
When in residence, the DAC also organizes seminar presentations and panel discussions focusing on post-graduate employment opportunities and continuing education for HWR alumni.
In May 2004, the DAC and members of the class of '78, along with departmental administrative staff, organized the 2nd Ephemeral Reunion celebrating over 42* graduating classes for HWR alums and their families. In addition to bringing together hundreds of former students with current faculty, students, and staff, the 3-day event honored recently retired faculty emerti.
*The first graduation class was 1962 when two graduate students, 1 Master of Science candidate and 1 Doctor of Philosophy candidate, completed degree requirements with a major in Hydrology. You can find thesis and dissertation information for the Class of 1962 and all subsequent classes here.
