The American Meteorological Society's Robert E. Horton Lecturer in Hydrology award was inaugurated in 2010. The lecture was established to recognize an eminent scientist's significant contributions to the understanding of activities that support the integration of expertise in the hydrological and meteorological sciences. The purpose of the lectureship is to encourage and foster an interchange of ideas between meteorologists and hydrologists.
