John and Margaret Harshbarger established the Harshbarger Doctoral Fellowship in Hydrogeology in 1983 to recognize the most outstanding doctoral student studying hydrogeology in the department.  Applicants must be second-year or more in residence whose major research emphasis is hydrogeology-subsurface hydrology.  Selection criteria includes, but is not limited to, superior academic achievement, significant research achievement, and potential for making significant contributions to the science of hydrology and water resources, particularly in the area of hydrogeology and/or subsurface hydrology.
